Nowadays there are plenty of books and recipes out there for magick spells, hexes, easy money, finding love and whatnot. Yet… many cannot make any of them work. Why might that be? It could be they did not do the proper training steps needed to cast a spell and do such things. It could also be they just arent capable of doing it sort of like not being able to draw. Although I think both of those are reasons as well I think one of the main reasons is this; they are not meant for you. They are like examples or ideas. But to get the best results you need to throw out the rulebook and make your own, from scratch. Following no rules or laws already sat forth. The rules and laws found in those books are ones people of the past set themselves in. Do you really want to be constricted to someone elses laws and rules over something so personal?
So where do we begin? As I said those books can be handy. They can help the creation and imagination process. But are they personal? What do they mean to you? Nothing at all but a hope at using someone elses personal workings to achieve a cheap way to get what you want. They say the intent is what makes magick have its color as it all starts out grey or colorless. So if the intent is almost always selfish? Well.. unless it was made and designed by yourself then why would it work for you?
Think of it like this… The road less walked, or making your own path. That is what magick is. It is about something deeply personal. You bare your soul, self and true mind to you and the energies, elements and devices you choose to work with on this path. Using others work will not do that.
The best way to begin is to decide what type of path you want to walk. Look within yourself, what goes well with you or suits you best? What will help you change and grow the most? It could be following various gods and deities…it could be following different elements, even plants or animals. It could be any number of things. Read and research, see what paths and things others do. Then make your own dedication ritual to what you choose. Make it deeply personal and deeply open. The results will amaze you.
Once that is done, listen and grow with the path and use it and what you learn to help you with your spellcraft. Only then will you be able to truly get the results you want and truly be able to call yourself a sorcerer or magick user. Anything else is just being a selfish copycat.
