Lucid dreaming has many uses and is not to hard to achieve. It just takes some effort and time to get it to work. Lucid dreaming is of course knowing you are asleep when you are dreaming. Knowing it is a dream and gaining full control over it or being able to choose your actions in the dream. Your mind is basically in a full awake state yet still dreaming. It also leads to things like Dream Walking and Dream Weaving.
There are four levels of lucid dreaming:
- Knowing you are dreaming.
- Controlling your own actions.
- Able to manipulate the surroundings of your dream.
- Able to manipulate the other people, beings, animals, etc in your dream.
The best way I have found to make yourself become lucid in a dream is simply by holding something in your hand as you fall asleep. A stress ball you can squeeze works well. You fall asleep squeezing and unsqueezing it. After some time(This will vary for everyone) you will dream with the ball in your hand. You will realize you fell asleep with the ball, thus realizing you are dreaming and becoming lucid for it.
Some methods to help stabilize the dream once you realize you are dreaming is by studying your hands, and what is in one. Saying I am dreaming or some other phrase that will help stabilize the mind and the dream into a nice mesh.
A few other things that can help you on your path to lucid dreaming is by keeping a dream journal and writing in it every day upon waking, meditate, and of course being more observant of things in everyday life. The observant skill will help you in realizing you are in a dream.
