It has been a very long year vc wise this year. Death, natural or suicide, new factions, changes, splits, criminals, academic research, and loss/change. Many great and amazing people are gone to soon this year. I do not see a reason to list them all out honestly but I think we should in truth remember them fondly and take away lessons from their absence. It is not a specific fault of anyone, no one failed. We should take what we learned and do better. Make the changes that are needed and move forward to help others in the future, or, to honor a memory. We all do all that we can and sometimes even then it may not seem like it was enough. As long as we did our best and gave our all we did fine.
Most of the new stuff coming or that split to do their own thing was in a way needed. Most from what I have seen did it because of a lack of or a need. I am sure a few did it for ego or power or to get their name or something but the majority seemed to be genuine thus far. A very nice thing to see! Some do well already on putting their stuff out there. You know who they are, what they are about. Some of the newer ones and new things to come we will be seeking to do Q and A's with to really help get their ideas, purpose and promote them. Our first starting soon will be an interview/question session with that elusive site TVN. Stay tuned.
Another thing seems to be egos. When two people let their egos get the best of them and drag in others around them into their personal beef it is sad. It is not helping the community in the least. All it does is tear it down. Either find a parking lot and fight it out one on one or a motel room and fuck. Get on with it and stop messing up the lives of folks around you in the community.
The other thing is... the end of the year signals the retirement of Merticus from the community. He has done much in the community and in pushing it out into ways not really done before. Agree or disagree with him he does have quite a legacy and has done so very much to help the community and will indeed be missed. However, that does not mean anything will end per say. But a lot will change indeed. It will be a new in many ways. What direction will it be taken, the vc that is, what new things will pop up to take the place of what Mert left? What new people will rise up to help or hinder? It is a new era that begins next year. Let us try and make it even better than the last one eh?
